The SBA is hosting a webinar on April 24, 2013, to help educate small business owners and entrepreneurs on social media.

In partnership with the W20 Group, which is an “ecosystem” of digital communications companies, the SBA hopes this webinar will aid entrepreneurs in leveraging and growing their businesses.

According to the SBA’s press release, the webinar will focus on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, blogs and mobile marketing. The goal of the webinar is to help small businesses and entrepreneurs create very comprehensive social media strategies that can generate a maximum return on investment.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Defining social media
  • The necessity of getting involved in social media usage
  • Demographics
  • Best practices
  • How to enter into the social media landscape
Tiffani Clements, spokeswoman for the SBA, told that—far from being an archaic and top-heavy organization—this isn’t the first time the SBA has addressed social media.

“The SBA recently had a webinar to provide small business owners with tips on how to use social media in the event of a disaster,” said Clements, referring to a webinar developed in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

She also noted that the webinar would be recorded and archived for later viewing.

While the SBA is more famous for guaranteeing business loans, Clements explained that this is one of many educational efforts put on by the SBA to help entrepreneurs.

“Part of the SBA’s mission is to help educate small business owners on how to grow their business and this social media webinar is just one avenue in which we’re doing that,” she said.

Future webinars are planned and will cover blogging, content creation on Facebook, connecting with influencers and location-based marketing.
